Hello,
Nattuvangam is an art by itself. But if you are a dancer and sure about
the adavus and if your talam control is good, certified by a sincere knowledgeable
musician or dance teacher, you should be able to do the nattuvangam without
much difficulty. The main thing what you have to learn is to hold the talam
on a proper way and to use it for different nadais and chols, where to
apply it in a closed and open way. If you learn this, then if you can practice
on your own, a dancer should be able to do it. As you are dancer I don’t
think you need months to learn it. Some dance teachers who were afraid
even to hold talam are able to do nattuvangam really well with a small
guidance. Some of them have started acting like born Nattuvangam artists.
If some one says that you will get a Nattuvangam course for 6 months or
one year, you are wasting your precious time and money. Wish you all the
best.
