The arts have always been a place surcharged with emotion-- in fact, our work in art (be it dance, music, poetry, etc.) is often an expression of our creative energy coupled with our experiences and emotions based on those experiences. We personally feel so many of the emotions that we enact as dancers on the stage. Though we may be a passionate lot, that is no reason for one of us to lash out at Suba-ji.
I've had the pleasure of meeting and working with Suba Parmar before, and I can honestly tell you that she is passionate about her art. It does not matter if I know the dancer or not-- what matters is that Suba was simply trying to help others by sharing what worked for her in her experience as a classical danseuse and Guru. I may not agree with all she has written, and some things may not apply to me personally. But I do appreciate it and take it for what it is-- and just that! What's the need for the defamation? It was a gesture of good will-- in fact, I wish more professional dancers I came across were kind enough to share their experiences in a compeltely selfless way. Many are so arrogant and unnapproachable-- a major problem because it is the biggest turn off. In fact, I had the pleasure of meeting a very senior dancer recently who I was fond of-- and upon meeting her and being greeted with her warmth, I became her biggest fan. It's high time we as artists stop criticising but simply relish the good deeds people do... we'll come a lot farther in our development as both artists and human beings.
