P Vasudeva Gurukkal one of the renowned Guru-s of Kalaripayattu
with his base in Kaduthuruthy, Kerala has been training many students
for years. Shaji is a student of Vasu Gurukkal, trained in Kalari, Yoga,
Kalari Massage and Marma Chikilsa since 1984.
Shaji has won the District championship award from 1986 to 1991 and State championship award from 1988 to 1991. On the advice of his Guru, he joined the well known Contemporary Dancer–Choreographer Chandralekha in 1987 at Chennai. Since then Shaji has been “performing” with Chandralekha and has traveled with her world-wide. As a part of these performances, various Kalari workshops were conducted. During 1995-98, Shaji taught Kalaripayattu and practiced Kalari massage at Auroville International Township, Pondicherry. Currently Shaji is conducting
regular Kalari classes and practicing Kalari treatment and
Kalari massage in Chennai.
