Jacob's Pillow is an 18th-century farm located in the town of Becket in Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. It was purchased by American modern dancer Ted Shawn in 1930. Three years later, Shawn founded the JACOB'S PILLOW DANCE FESTIVAL as a showcase for his company of Men Dancers and as a home for dance in the US. It is the longest running festival of its kind in the United States. Recognizing its cultural significance, the U S Secretary of the Interior designated Jacob's Pillow as a National Historic Landmark in 2003 as "an exceptional cultural venue that holds value for all Americans." It is the first and only dance entity in the US to achieve this honor. The Pillow will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2007. |
The
Green Room is a quiet, comfortable room backstage where performers can
rest and relax before, after and between shows. No one knows exactly why
it's called a Green Room, but it has been part of the theatre tradition
for centuries. Some people believe it is a reference to the days when theatre
was performed outside in the open air "on the green."
