A
bhakti based dance form, Krishnattam was influenced by the prevailing art
forms, especially Jayadeva's Geeta Govindam. The beginnings of this art
form lie with Manadevan Raja (1585-1658), the Zamorin of Kozhikode, who
wrote ‘Krishnageethi’ in 1654. When it was subsequently choreographed,
it came to be known as Krishnattam or dance of Krishna.

Krishnageethi was composed in 1654 before the era of the trinity of Carnatic music. |
