  Sapphire Creations presentsINTERFACE Contemporary Arts Fest Sep 21 - 25, 2012 Kolkata Sep 26 - 27, 2012 Delhi Sept 28 - 30, 2012 Bangalore August 30, 2012 As part of Sapphire’s 10th anniversary celebrations in 2002, young directors Sudarshan Chakravorty and Paramita Saha envisioning a bright future for the contemporary arts in India pioneered the LINK THE ARTS movement, with an effort to bind arts and artists in healthy creative syntheses. As evident from the concept of LINK THE ARTS, these sessions are intended to bring together artistes from various disciplines of art for interactions, thus creating an interface between the arts and through them people. The aim is to bring issues that bother all or most artistes out in the open, and in brainstorming sessions exchange ideas, develop solutions, and form a larger and more meaningful art fraternity, which can provide encouragement and support to budding artistes. It initiates a drive to bring together interesting commissioned and impromptu collaborations to form a larger art fraternity, which can reach out to educate and create new audiences. INTERFACE - THE FESTIVAL The first step in this movement was INTERFACE, the INTERnational Festival of Alternative and Contemporary Expressions, the first ever international arts festival of Eastern India and only the third of the country. Seem as they may as disparate units the arts are variously shaped to fit into each other to create a meaningful cumulative experience. Sapphire attempts to create such a common yet non-mainstream platform where the arts can interact and bring to us expressions of another kind. Every two years, Sapphire throws open to the art lovers of eastern India and Kolkata in particular, this movement to bring home the tremendous and turbulent experimentation that recreates every human experience in myriad artistic forms all over the world. INTERFACE is Eastern India’s first and only international platform for contemporary expressions in the alternative arts. The festival is a major event in the cultural calendar of India covering the disciplines of dance, music, installations, painting, fashion, theatre and cinema. A variety of events are constantly being added to the festival on the lines of free events, lane events, seminars and workshops. The arts for a period of five odd days come alive to a frenzied process of exchange, learning and interaction between forms, genres, people and cultures. In an instant, sensibilities and sensitivities are united, the world is bonded in art and in the love of it.
