Third Handful - Flowers (Spring, Colour, Life)
Fourth Handful - Leaves (Magic, Blue, Green)
Fifth Handful - Gold (Nature/Nurture - Chaos, Calm)

Avani uses a combination of contemporary and classical soundscapes, spoken text. The choreography draws upon diverse vocabularies such as Kathakali, Bharatanatyam, Butoh, meditative movement, rehearsed improvisations and theatrical interventions.

Press
“AVANI held us with its freshness, quite different from the mush that Tagore is often reduced to. Its interwoven texts, rich-voiced singing, and modern sensibility, combined to charm, and, most importantly, to make Tagore sharply relevant.”
- Shanta Gokhale, Mumbai Mirror

“A perfect grasp of Tagore’s spirit of liberal thought.”
- Sharmila Basu Thakur, The Telegraph, Kolkata

“Anita Ratnam’s AVANI manages to break the barriers between Bengal and South India creating another cultural bond. The production has a quality of timelessness and can relate to all eras and still convey relevance.”
- Veejay Sai, culture critic, Bangalore
