Sangam: A confluence of dance

On the 12th of September 2012, Art Vision presents the 8th dance festival SANGAM:  A CONFLUENCE OF DANCE, at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar. The festival is conceived as an offering of new and exclusive choreographic compositions in two different dance styles. Every year two styles of dance come together on the same platform to showcase recent and innovative works. While Odissi is a constant factor, the other classical style varies every year. This year besides Odissi presented by Art Vision, the festival will showcase group compositions in Bharatanatyam style by Kalavardini Sankul group from Pune directed by renowned dancer and choreographer  Sucheta  Chapekar. 
               
Art Vision, founded in the year 1996 by Dr. Ileana Citaristi along with a group of artistes belonging to different disciplines such as dance, music, painting and literature, has already organized several events which reflect its multidisciplinary nature. Among these is the Kalinga Mahotsav, a National Festival of Martial Arts, organized in collaboration with Orissa Tourism at Dhauli Stupa since 2003. The performing unit of Art Vision has presented dance performances in many prestigious festivals and conferences in India and abroad. The repertoire of the troupe consists of original compositions and dance-dramas choreographed by Dr. Ileana Citaristi, who is a senior disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.
    
The production scheduled to be presented in Sangam Festival 2012 by Art Vision is a specially choreographed item titled KAALA- TIME BOUND, an ode to the different dimensions of Time, its mysterious beginning and end, its cyclic and linear movements its aspects of creator and destroyer. Lyrics are provided by Devdas Chhotray, music by Ananda Prasanna Patanaik and the choreography is by Dr. Ileana Citaristi.

A book titled TRADITIONAL MARTIAL PRACTICES IN ODISHA authored by Dr. Ileana Citaristi and published by Subhi Publications, New Delhi, will be released on this occasion.
