At: Scotiabank Dance Centre, 677 Davie Street, Vancouver BC, V6B 2G6, 3pm Info & full schedule: 604 – 606 – 6400 / www.thedancecentre.ca “To have a Bharatanatyam dancer (my student Kiruthika) on the poster for ‘International Dance Day’ and ‘National Dance Week’ is the result of my past 30 years of work to make Bharatanatyam and the Indian classical dance forms a very part of the panorama of the well known and recognized dance forms in Canada and very specially British Columbia.... and I did not have to dilute the form to achieve it either. The poster and publicity has been distributed across Canada and beyond. In all humility, it brings me great joy and fulfillment. Our festival ‘Gait to the spirit’ which will be held for the third year in October 2012 has also received full houses,” says Jai Govinda, Artistic Director of Mandala Arts and Culture. Well known writer and dance critic Kaija Pepper wrote in the ‘International magazine’ that Jai Govinda’s continuous efforts through performing, teaching and presenting, have made the classical lines of Bharatanatyam in British Columbia as familiar and recognizable as the one of classical ballet.
