Natya Institute of Kathak & Choreography (N.I.K.C) is the only institute in the country to accord a B.A. Degree in choreography (affiliated to the Bangalore University). It has a highly renowned performing unit – Natya STEM Dance Kampni, which has toured 30 countries world wide led by founder - Dr. Maya Rao and Director - Madhu Nataraj. N.I.K.C. is made up of eminent artistes and experts from the field of dance, music, theatre, design and the allied arts.

Prestigious organizations like the I.C.C.R, Ministry of External Affairs, Dept of Culture, Ministry of H.R.D Sangeet Natak Akademi recognize the pioneering contribution of the N.I.K.C. and have accorded research & production support, and fellowships to help the institute pursue its projects in dance, theatre, education, social welfare and therapy.

NIKC was started in Delhi in 1964 with the patronage of Kamala Devi Chattopadhya, under the aegis of the Bharthi Natya Sangh (Indian Center of the ITI - International Theatres Institutions Trust – affiliated to UNESCO). In 1987 N.I.K.C moved base to Bangalore with the assistance of the Government of Karnataka. The organisation’s ideology is to balance tradition and modernity, in every aspect of its functioning.

Objective
To be a symbiotic body that fuses traditional dance disciplines and evolving choreographic trends, becoming a medium for development through dance education, performance and interface.

Natya STEM (Space.Time.Energy.Movement) Dance Kampni believes in engaging recognizably ‘Indian’ movement aesthetic sensibilities to create a contemporary dance vocabulary. Madhu Natraj started the kampni 1995, to explore and create new expressions in dance. Today, it has emerged as one of India’s leading contemporary Indian dance companies, recognized for its lyrical and dynamic performances in India and abroad. The Kampni strives to create a dance vocabulary, which explores the limitless possibilities of the human form. Motifs of Indian movement disciplines, original music, experiments with rhythm, interactive design, come together to form the Kampni’s signature style. Needless to say the dancers at NSDK live and breathe dance!
